Last season, the Hotline published weekly ‘Best of the West’ power ratings that considered not only Pac-12 teams but those in the Mountain West and Brigham Young. The exercise was so popular that we’re adding a MW-specific column to our array of offerings this season.Quick thought before diving into the power ratings:With Boise State and San Diego State sitting on multiple losses, the Mountain West is lacking marquee matchups for the conference season. It’s a bad year for Fresno State and Air Force — the only remaining undefeated teams — to miss each other.(All times Pacific)1. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Having to play two games on the road in less than a week gave the New York Giants three days to look back at their first three games and to consider what’s gone wrong. It’s nothing like a season ago when the Giants won their first two games under new coach Brian Daboll and six of their first seven. It carried the team to its first playoff berth since 2016 with a 9-7-1 record. This season has been much shakier. New York is 1-2. It has been blown out by the Dallas Cowboys (2-1) and San Francisco 49ers (3-0) and it needed to match its greatest comeback in franchise history for a 31-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals (1-2).The job is not going to get easier with Seattle (2-1), Miami (3-0) and Buffalo (2-1) over the next three weeks, especially with all that is going wrong.Daniel Jones and the offense are struggling. The defense is missing tackles, not forcing turnovers and failing to get off the field, even on third-and-long situations. If there has ...Jaguars ‘have to do better’ with a pass rush that looks pedestrian for a second straight year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jaguars coach Doug Pederson paused for roughly 15 seconds — it seemed like an eternity in a silent meeting room — before trying to explain Jacksonville’s lackluster pass rush against Houston. There wasn’t much to say since the Texans were without four starting offensive linemen and going with a rookie quarterback who had been sacked an NFL-leading 11 times in the first two weeks.“You can maybe point to several things, but we have to do better,” Pederson said. “It starts up front.”Two weeks after Josh Allen and Travon Walker combined for four sacks at Indianapolis — two of them because Allen ran Anthony Richardson out of bounds — Jacksonville’s pass rush returned to its pedestrian 2022 form in a 37-17 debacle at home to AFC South rival and previously winless Houston on Sunday.Neither Allen nor Walker nor anyone else got to rookie C.J. Stroud, who had extra time to throw for the first time this season. Stroud completed 20 of 30 passes for 280 yards, with two t...MLB-leading Braves are dealing with an ailing rotation as the playoffs loom

ATLANTA (AP) — Baseball’s best team has some major pitching concerns heading into the final week of the regular season. Two of Atlanta’s key starters — Max Fried and Charlie Morton — have landed on the injured list in recent days, raising questions about just who’ll be available for the Braves in the playoffs.Spencer Strider (19-5) and Bryce Elder (12-4) are the only two regular starters who appear certain to pitch in the NL Division Series, which starts Oct. 7.Strider remains confident in his team, no matter who is healthy for the playoffs.“This whole organization is something to marvel at,” he said. “It’s not like it’s just been 26 guys either. It’s been a whole group.”Allan Winans, who has bounced between the big leagues and Triple-A while the Braves dealt with a rash of pitching injuries this season, is among those who could get an unlikely start in the postseason.“Obviously, I would be pretty ecstatic about the opportunity,” Winans told ...IndyCar’s return marks major comeback for 120-year-old Milwaukee Mile

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) — Once a fixture on the IndyCar racing circuit, the Milwaukee Mile lost its spot on the schedule and was in danger of closing altogether on multiple occasions. Now the 120-year-old facility is making a comeback as remarkable as any that drivers have staged on this 1-mile oval track over the years. IndyCar is returning to the Milwaukee Mile next year as part of a Labor Day weekend doubleheader just before the final race of the season.Roger Penske, owner of both IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, hopes this time it’s back for good and rattled off a list of motorsports greats who raced at the historic track.“You think of Rex Mays and (Tony) Bettenhausen and some of the greatest drivers — Rodger Ward racing up here,” Penske said Monday. “These are the great names in the sport. Always right after Indy they used to come, obviously would come here to Milwaukee and run. To me, it was just part of the DNA of the series. And we kind of lost that.”The track is ...Steelers’ team plane makes emergency landing in Kansas City, no injuries reported

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — It may sound strange after the Miami Dolphins’ offense put up a historic performance during a game that was never in doubt, but coach Mike McDaniel believes his team responds well to adversity.“We talked at length all offseason just about adversity,” McDaniel said, “and sometimes adversity is having a score or two lead because you can let the atmosphere dictate your product. So what I saw from a lot of guys, and specifically when you’re talking about that type of production, that’s guys really taking it to heart — that we have one opportunity with this team in 2023, and we’re going to make the most of it and be unrelenting with our standards.”The Dolphins maintained those standards throughout their 70-20 drubbing of the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Miami recorded 726 yards of total offense, including 350 yards rushing, in the most impressive display of offensive firepower since McDaniel took over last year.Miami’s 70 points were the most in the NF...Owner speaks out after surveillance video captures 2 suspects stealing boat from lot in West Park

Police are searching for two thieves after cameras captured them stealing a boat in South Florida. Now, the owner simply wants their boat back. From the surveillance video, the suspect was seen hitching a trailer with a 22-foot Sea Swirl onto the back of his Ford explorer, Sunday. “They came around again at 8:30, that’s when they took the whole boat, we can see footage of it,” said Angel Pinto, the boat’s owner. “We see a lady with black hair.”The black haired woman that was seen is accused of being the suspect’s accomplice. However, the suspect, a man, who was seen wearing a white fishing hat, jeans, a gray shirt and glasses, first came to the lot where the boat was being held in the middle of the day. “It was a 6:30 p.m. when we first caught them on camera in the footage,” Pinto said. “They started by cutting the gates and then the locks on the gates, and then he was just inspecting the boat.”The suspect was inspecti...Latest news
