5 passengers aboard Titanic submersible presumed dead: Coast Guard United States Coast Guard officials now say the five people aboard the Titan, a submersible that was lost while exploring the wreckage of the Titanic, are presumed dead. Earlier on Thursday, debris had been found on the surface near the Titanic's wreckage. Officials confirmed that debris was the remains of the Titan.Officials said the debris field was "consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel."The Coast Guard currently has nine vessels on the scene.
