Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:10:03 GMT

SARATOGA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Whether you’ve seen him protesting police brutality or raising his concerns at city council, Saratoga Black Lives Matter Leader Lexis Figuereo doesn’t shy away from controversy. For years, the local movement's co-founder has been the subject of headlines and clips passed around online showing BLM blocking streets, facing arrest, and refusing to be silenced at city council meetings. However, Figuereo says what people see in a 30 second social media clip can’t begin to tell his story."They want to paint me as a demon, a monster. They label me as a terrorist, because if they had to see me as I am—a dedicated father and a member of this community just like them—they might actually have to take what I say seriously," Figuereo says during a lengthy interview with NEWS10's Mikhaela Singleton."Most people who make judgments on me and my group or any of us don’t actually know us. They’ve actually told us that we are not from Saratoga, we didn’t go to school here, w...

Novak Djokovic tries to put issue of Kosovo comments behind him at French Open

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:10:03 GMT

By HOWARD FENDRICH (AP Tennis Writer)PARIS (AP) — Novak Djokovic sure seemed like someone ready to move on from the latest non-tennis issue he’s been involved in during a Grand Slam tournament. Criticized after his previous match for comments about clashes in northern Kosovo between ethnic Serbs and NATO-led peacekeepers, the 22-time major champion stayed away from political matters on Wednesday night. When his 7-6 (2), 6-0, 6-3 victory over Marton Fucsovics in the second round of the French Open ended, Djokovic, a 36-year-old from Serbia, wrote on the lens of a TV camera — a custom at more and more tennis tournaments — and kept it simple, with an autograph and a smiley face. It was quite different from what happened after his win Monday, when Djokovic drew attention for writing in Serbian, “Kosovo is the heart of Serbia. Stop the violence,” and then speaking out about the matter at a news conference with reporters from his home country. That drew ...

Attitude at altitude: Heat coach Erik Spoelstra couldn’t care less about the 5,280 feet between Miami and Denver

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:10:03 GMT

Erik Spoelstra wanted nothing to do with the altitude conversation Wednesday afternoon. The first question asked of the 15th-year Miami head coach at Ball Arena ahead of the NBA Finals opener Thursday night was about playing on the Front Range with much shorter rest than an acclimated Denver team.He put zero stock into 5,280 feet.“If Denver wants to tip this thing off at the top of Everest, we’ll do that,” Spoelstra, the two-time NBA champion, said. “This thing is going to be decided between the four lines. They’ve also got to come back to Miami. If you want to make it about that, we’ll turn off the air conditioning and they’ve got to play in 90-degree humidity, sap the (crap) out of their legs.“This thing is going to be decided between those four lines, and we’ll decide it then.”Heat guard Duncan Robinson echoed his head coach’s sentiment.“I mean, we’ve played here before, so it’s not some folklore that no one has seen before,” he said. “A l...

Jeff Green’s long NBA Finals wait is finally, mercifully, almost over.Sure, it’s been a while since the 14-year veteran last made it this far in the playoffs — 2017-18 with Cleveland — but the past 10 days have also felt like an eternity. The Nuggets polished off their Western Conference Finals sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers on May 22 and could have finalized a matchup with Miami the next night had the Heat finished off its own sweep of Boston.Instead, the Celtics ran off three straight wins before falling in Game 7 on Monday night. The result? Green watched a whole lot of Eastern Conference Finals basketball over the past week-plus.“I told my wife when Boston won Game 6, it almost felt like – we’d been sitting so long, it almost felt like we weren’t in the playoffs anymore because the only thing we were doing was watching them,” Green said on the eve of Denver’s first Finals game. “But I watched two good teams battle and when they won, it was like, ‘now it’s time to refocus.’ ...

Actor Armie Hammer will not face sex assault charges in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will not pursue criminal charges against actor Armie Hammer over sexual assault allegations, the D.A. Office announced Wednesday.“Sexual assault cases are often difficult to prove, which is why we assign our most experienced prosecutors to review them,” Tiffiny Blacknell, Director of Communications for D.A. George Gascón said in a statement to KTLA. “In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime.”In March 2021, noted discrimination attorney Gloria Allred introduced a 24-year-old woman, who identified herself only as “Effie,” who claimed "The Social Network" and "Lone Ranger" actor raped her over the span of several hours in L.A. four years prior. ‘I thought that he was going to kill me’: Woman accuses actor Armie Hammer of rape; LAPD investigating “Effie” said she met the actor online in 2016 and their r...
