Scouting the Colorado high school football quarterfinals in Class 5A, 4A and 3A The Colorado high school football season is down to its final three weekends. With eight teams left in each of the state’s three largest classifications, here’s a preview of what to look for:Class 5ANo. 8 Mountain Vista (9-2) at No. 1 Cherry Creek (11-0), 7 p.m. Friday: It’s been three months since a defense kept the Golden Eagles under 34 points. But it’s been five years since the Creek defense allowed an opponent to score more than 28. The last time Ralston Valley faced a rushing a...

El Niño Winter Outlook: What California can expect

Published Thu, 21 Nov 2024 21:30:33 GMT

El Niño Winter Outlook: What California can expect El Niño is back and, if forecasts are accurate, it should deliver above-normal temperatures and above-normal rain and snow to California. After years of back-to-back La Niña conditions, this winter will be the first in five years with an El Niño pattern in place. The last time we saw El Niño was in the winter of 2018 to 2019, and even that year's impact was substantially weaker than what we're seeing now. During an El Niño winter, the southern third to half of the United States, including California, tends to see wetter weather. (Exactly where that dividing line falls varies from year to year.)Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Ohio Valley tend to be dry and warm. Hawaii also often sees below-average rain during an El Niño year. El Niño officially arrives early: What it means for California La Niña is basically the opposite: less rain or snow for the southern half of the country, and colder, wetter conditions in the Pacific Northwest. The influence of El Niño shows u...
