But then college came and went — and no sex. PLEASANT HILL — A driver died Tuesday afternoon after the vehicle he drove lost control and slammed into a pair of poles, the California Highway Patrol said.Authorities early Wednesday identified the driver as 26-year-old Walnut Creek resident Akmaljon Khakimov. The crash happened about 2:05 p.m. on Coggins Drive. CHP Officer Brandon Correia said the black BMW sedan Khakimov drove was going east on Coggins when it crashed as it came upon the intersection at Las Juntas Way.The BMW collided with a concrete curb and then hit two metal poles, Correia said. After hitting the poles, the BMW flipped, Correia said.Khakimov died at the scene.The CHP is looking for any witnesses who may have see the crash or the BMW in the moments leading up to him. HONOLULU (KHON2) — As multiple fires continue to rage across parts of Maui, authorities have issued an immediate evacuation for some residents.On Tuesday, Aug. 8, an emergency proclamation was issued in response to the fires. Multiple agencies from federal, state and county are responding and helping residents evacuate in certain areas: Lahaina, Kula, North Kihei and Kaanapali.According to an early morning update on Wednesday, Aug. 9, emergency services officials said they are treating three burn victims from Maui who have been sent to Oahu. MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned three Mexican citizens Wednesday for alleged involvement in the production and trafficking of the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl. It was the second round of sanctions in as many months against leading fentanyl traffickers from the Sinaloa drug cartel. The three men sanctioned all worked in the violent border city of Tijuana. They include one man known as “The Anthrax Monkey,” whose decades-long career includes breaking out of prison. The three allegedly moved large amounts of synthetic opioid fentanyl into the United States. The sanctions block any assets the targets may have in the United States and prohibit U.S. citizens from having any dealings with them.
